Running out of room at their current location, the South San Francisco Scavenger Company recently purchased a large property to store their debris boxes and garbage bins. The 66,000 square foot yard, however, was a combination of dirt and gravel, and not at all suitable for their needs. The initial plan was to pave the yard with asphalt, until the City informed them they could not do anything that would increase the quantity of stormwater-runoff from the property.
The suggested solution was to dedicate a portion of the yard to stormwater detention, but reducing the much-needed space was the last thing the owners wanted. That is when consulting engineer, Robin Lee of Schaaf and Wheeler, suggested using pervious concrete for the entire yard. Robin recognized that pervious concrete would not only meet the City’s requirements for reduced runoff, but also provide a hard durable surface for the South San Francisco Scavenger Company without sacrificing valuable space.
We have received several inquiries regarding our product’s strength when it comes to emergency vehicle access (EVA) and heavy traffic. When designed correctly, the pervious pavement will support the intended load without issues. Contact us today for design assistance.
